Fantasy times: Do you know what a Ushig is? Are you brave enough to find out?
Ellen has always remembered the funny rhyme her Aunt Mirian used to sing to her. “I call you once. I call you twice. I call you three times over.” This is not just any rhyme however as Ellen finds out when she sings it close to a loch in Scotland and manages to call something called an Ushig to her.
An Ishig is a kelpie, a water wraith, and his intentions are anything but pure.
When Ellen is dragged into a dark, parallel world, inhabited by the creatures of Scottish legend, will she ever be able to escape?
Kelpie, or water kelpie, is the Scots name given to a shape-shifting water spirit inhabiting the lochs and pools of Scotland. It is often described as appearing as a horse, but is able to adopt human form. There are many places where you can go in and around Scotland to spot this mythical creature but one place not far from Edinburgh is in Grangemouth and is a series of sculptures of Kelpie heads. Large kelpie heads. If you’re brave enough to see them for real.
