What you need to know before your trail

Natalie is a teacher and is excited when one summer the Elm Hill Lido reopens after being fully restored. She is keen to go and once there, doesn’t want to leave. She meets another woman there called Lara and is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Lara Channing seems glamourous to Natalie who feels her life is one day of drudgery after the next.

This friendship soon starts to take a darker tone however as Natalie’s friendship with Lara overshadows everything else

Natalie is drawn closer into Lara’s circle – and to Lara herself . Escapism is possible it would seem, but it comes at a price

Travel Guide

“A swimming pool is a great stage. It’s such a symbol of pleasure and yet you can never escape the potential for danger”

Elm Hill Lido may be fictional but there are many lidos in and around London  just like the one featured in the book. The Serpentine for example is a good one as is the one on Parliament Hill.

After having read what goes on at the Elm Hill Lido however you might not want to visit one but we think the best thing to do would not only be to go but to read this novel when there, for maximum effect.

The Elm Hill lido in the book is one that has been lovingly crafted and restored back to life. It has been abandoned countless times over the years and its design is described as a squat brown brick wallks with enclosing curved corner,a horizontal strip of windows too high to see into, entrances and exits that had been boarded up..

In other words, a world away from reality and someone where it could well be hard to escape from.
