1900 is going to be the start of a new future for Castle Deverill. The story of the castle and those who live in it is going to change for ever. For the castle and the land is still under the influence of a powerful curse which will have repercussions for years to come.
The castle and its future is seen through the eyes of three very different women: Kitty Deverill, the flame-haired Anglo-Irish daughter of the castle, Bridie Doyle, the daughter of the Irish cook and Celia Deverill, Kitty’s flamboyant English cousin.
When the Irish War of Independence gets ever closer, the fate of the castle and of the Deverills themselves is to be tested to the fore.

The story starts in 1910 and finishes in 1925 – a period of great change and new beginnings in Ireland – this period included both the First World War and the Irish struggle for Home Rule, for independence, for what they believe was their right.
Castle Deverill is an aristocratic home which has been in the Deverill family for generations. the origins of the castle and its ownership date all the way back to the 1600s and the time of Cromwell. It was then that the land passed from the O’Leary family to the Deverills and this ownership has been a bone of contention ever since. It also stands as a bastion of British supremacy
