The Solstice is a major feature of everything which occurs in this book and it’s a theme which is explored in many different ways. The subject matter is dark and deals with witchcraft and other believes and traditions in and around the Solstice calendar.
Despite the beautiful setting of Loch Lomond, there are some very dark undercurrents in this book. There is a lot of violence and the body count is high despite this being a crime thriller. Having said that, the location of the stunning loch with its clear blue waters and inviting call, if you can disassociate what happens here, really is somewhere to visit for real. Go and imagine the boys playing on the island as their parents sit round the campfire…
Glasgow also features heavily but it’s the Loch Lomond and surrounding countryside which really shines despite the bloody happenings.
