On the rain-drenched, wave-lashed, wind-battered Banffshire coast, the fisherman out at sea risk their lives every day and it looks as if the houses do to in their precarious looking positions – these tiny fishing villages perched on cliff ledges.
All seems quite normal however and the fishing season is well underway. But when something other than fish starts turning up in barrels, there is definitely a strong whiff of murder in the air.
Dandy Gilver on the scene and her trusty cohort Alec Osborne are soon swept up in the fisherfolk’s wedding season as well as the mystery.

Gamrie and the fishing villages of Banff and Macduff
Fishing villages steeped in tradition and nostalgia and with fishing industries which have kept them going for years. Closed communities too with their tightly woven beliefs and traditions. The secrets of the past and present however are as tightly packed as the herrings in those barrels. Not much room for outsiders here
The village of Gamrie is a small and inhospitable place. Everyone knows everyone and everyone seems to be related to everyone else. Houses reveal entire generations and therefore once again the cramped conditions of the village and the fish barrels are replicated here
If anything interferes with the fishing industry, the tradition and the need to fish, then the whole village and area could be placed in danger.
Craggy, rocky, claustrophobic villages dotted around the Banff coast are as evocative as they seem and you can almost smell the whiff of fish in the air!
