A man enters Montalbano’s police station to report an armed robbery on his wife. It sounds very alarming but then the man says that it ended with a kiss sp Montalbano is left a bit more confused that he was before. Something is very strange with this story.
As he delves deeper into the case, Montalbano finds that it’s even more confusing than he first thought. None of the witnesses’ stories are adding up. Then a body turns up showing all the signs of a mafia hit. This case definitely has the hall markings of something very weird indeed.
Talking about weird – there’s a case that keeps winding its way back to Montalbano’s office. The case of a locked door has suddenly appeared on a farmer’s disused shed, and then, just as quickly, the door disappears.
This could well be the Inspector’s most curious and complex case yet.

As with the other Montalbano novels, the author states – ‘As is obvious, the names of …. streets, hotels etc are entirely fictitious and make no reference to reality’. What a shame.
