1930s: Back to Kirrin island and some very suspicions goings on!
What can Uncle Quentin be up to – all alone – on Kirrin Island. He won’t let anyone visit – not even George and the rest of the Famous Five. But Quentin isn’t really all alone on the island – somebody is watching his every move!
Corfe Castle was the inspiration for Kirrin Castle (fictional). The author is known to have visited the ruin in 1941,and if you want to arrive and see the town just like she would have done, then your best bet is to get the train (hers would have been a steam train from Swanage) and pretend you’re either the author herself or one of the Famous Five disembarking at Corfe Station.
Kirrin Cottage is of course fictional but there are plenty cottages dotted around the village which it could be!
Inside Corfe station, there is a painting of the Five, with the castle in the background. Good for photographs for children and adults alike!
If you’re thirsty by this point – try some ginger beer – available from The Ginger Pop shop as well as period toys and books of course.
Author/Guide: Enid Blyton Destination: Dorset, Corfe Castle Departure Time: 1930s
