1993: Sandra Gregory ends up in prison for drug smuggling. This is her story
Sandra Gregory is an infamous backpacker and drug smuggler and has appeared on numerous TV shows including “Banged Up Abroad” which has portrays her from everything to a naive backpacker to someone who thought she could get rich and flee Thailand without facing the consequences. This is her story of why she did what she did and the entire process from the moment she arrested to the time spent in prison. But this is only half the story, as Sandra eventually leaves prison and restarts her life in the UK. But does a person who has spent such a time in a foreign jail ever really lose the shackles put upon her?
Sandra Gregory has freely admitted she is guilty of the crime of drug smuggling and here recounts her time in both a Thai prison – the infamous Bangkok Hilton and the more ‘acceptable’ UK prisons
Life in prison whether guilty or not can not be easy but Sandra tells it like it is – the everyday routine, the cramped conditions and the extreme contrasts between the two countries’ legal systems. She got 25 years for her crime, which many including her thought harsh, but since this is Thai law, can you really feel sorry for her? She doesn’t write as if she wants you to – but to make others realise what they are getting themselves into and how to cope if they do.
Why would someone risk the death penalty or time in prison for smuggling drugs and how do you get involved with something like that in the first place?
What Sandra does next, is another story in itself. England is on the map since this is where Sandra lives (Yorkshire) and studied at Oxford University following her release from Cookham Prison in Kent
