2000s: An isolated Scottish island holds secrets galore..
Anna is an Oxford Academic but when her husband inherits a tiny island in Scotland the family uproot everything that they know to move there. From a challenging and interesting career, Anna must contend herself looking after her two children whilst trying to finish a novel. She starts to resent her position as she has no help looking after screaming toddlers with no chance to rest, sleep or find time for anything else other than to survive on her own on an isolated island where claustrophobia and boredom soon start to take their toll.
But the island holds its secrets too – for Anna becomes haunted by the discovery of a baby’s skeleton in the garden. Then there are letters, written by a woman 200 years previous who is trying to fit in on the island and encourage them to adopt modern medicine which the traditional islanders seem to reject.
Two women separated by centuries could hold the secret to Colsay in their hearts
“Spend a week or two on your very old island! A stunning new conversion of a traditional blackhouse dwelling with magnificent sea views from every window, set on the deserted island of Colway
No TV but a thoughtful book collection….
Colsay itself has a wealth of bird life and historical remains to explore, or ou may be happy to relax in the silence and beauty of this very special place”
Colsay is an uninhabited island off the South West coast of Scotland. Moving from Oxford, a bustling academic city to an island such as this is very difficult for it survives a great sense of change in look out and attitude. It’s a great change in lifestyle and expectation and when you’re alone looking after two small children, it can be very claustrophobic indeed. Husband Giles feels obliged to the island as it’s his inheritance as well as his chance to study puffins. He is largely absent from home but he makes his presence felt by his demands before leaving for the day. Wife Anna has to deal with the lowly life, the sleep deprivation and the lack of daylight.
