What you need to know before your trail

‘Last night, eight-year old Ethan Reed was abducted at gunpoint from his home by an armed intruder. We are urging members of the public to get in touch. A coordinated search of the local area will be carried out.’

Four years ago, Detective Inspector Harlan Miller killed someone. Now – divorced, alone, consumed by guilt – the world outside his prison walls holds little for him. Until, mere days after his release, an eight-year-old boy is abducted. Ethan Reed. The son of the man he killed.

Travel Guide

Sheffield with a bit of Leeds and Manchester thrown in

Harlan Miller is released on licence from prison and that’s when the nightmare begins. Trying to atone is going to be harder than he thought and the world in which he is forced to go is a dark one indeed. A missing boy takes him into t dark work of  local sex offenders and  child abusers. When another child disappears in Manchester,Harlan’s past and knowledge not to mention his unique set of skills is in great need. His way of working, his set of skills is not the one the police would or could use.

An ex-con has many problems settling into a city again but this one more than most. The city of Sheffield has nerves of steel it would seem and since it’s famous for the shiny stuff, that’s quite apt in this novel. St Mary’s Church, Callows Mount and the roads in and around the city make their appearance. As does the Northern Hospital and of course Leeds prison.
