1991: The story of Nicaragua, a country emerging from violent internal conflict and the struggles that entails
This is the story of Anne Harrison and her cousin Evelyn Harrison Gutiérrez. They were both born and raised in Massachusetts but now live in Nicaragua a country which is undergoing some of its biggest changes it’s ever experienced. They navigate the island and its people as they navigate the changes which are coming whether they want them or not.
How does a country reconcile with its past? And move towards its future at the same time?
References to actual historical persons, places, and events ensure that this story is evoked with authentic detail that draw you into a unique environment.
Some incidents are drawn from the author’s own experiences in Nicaragua, however, the story and its characters are fictional, as are some locations, such as the villages of Los Ríos, and Lower and Upper San Linda.
“Guatemala City, a cosmopolitan capitol of two million people bathed in the artificial lights of street lamps. Unlike Managua, the capitol of Nicaragua, Anne would not see the visible signs of Guatemala’s endemic poverty strategically hidden from the main streets and centers of commerce. She way no earthquake ravaged buildings serving as homes to impoverished families or begging streets urchins.”
