2000s: Who says hospitals are boring and unpleasant places to be?
When Tom gets hit on the head by a cricket ball, he finds himself at Lord Funt Hospital, and is greeted by a terrifying-looking porter. Things go from bad to worse when he meets the wicked matron in charge of the children’s ward… But Tom is about to embark on the most thrilling journey of a lifetime!
On the ward with Tom are four other children who just want an adventure even though they are in their beds. But where there is a will there will be more than one way!
Of course this hospital is fictional – this is such a fun place to be and the characters who work there are unlike you’ve ever seen or met before. Now, no hospital stay is the ideal place for a child but you can make it as much of an adventure as is possible. David Walliams is an ideal guide and he takes you through the wards to meet people who make the hospital run as smoothly as it can. Tootsie has the trolley of food she serves to all the patients and is quite the character! Watch out for the cigarette ash coming from Dilly…it’s enough to make your nose curl!
Next time you go into a hospital to visit someone or if you’re unfortunate to break a leg like Tom – even if you just walk past one in London especially, take a look up and you may just see the sign saying Lord Funt Hospital….the hospital is just the start of the adventures. What if there was a door which led to places such as the Antarctic?
