2000s: Murder stalks a central Malmö park…
A woman is stabbed to death while jogging in Malmö’s main park. Investigations show that she is from Switzerland and had links to some important people in the city. What she was doing in Malmö therefore might not be as straight forward as first appears.
While Malmö is dealing with the crime, Inspector Anita Sundström is on her annual leave and is showing Kevin Ash the sights of Skåne. The holiday is about to be interrupted however by death.
The dead man was a retired, respected diplomat. After another death, Anita finds herself involved in a case that dates back to the 1917 chance meeting of a Malmö waiter with the world’s most famous revolutionary.
The twists and turns of a police investigation can be far reaching and deadly.
Anita Sundstrom might be on holiday just outside of Stockholm but not for long. They have a cabin there and the place if one of pure rest and relaxation. But not for long. A suicide and an accident? She doesn’t share the same findings of the local police in Ystad .
The diplomat was retired but heavily involved with East/West relations. The atmosphere on the island soon turns into a heavily charged political landscape and not the quiet haven it was mean to be.
So, she decides to carry out an unofficial investigation and despite warnings to leave well alone, her findings take her to Berlin and then back to Sweden. The traces and layers of intrigue are further reaching that she ever could have imagined, with links to the Cold War and the Swedish Intelligence Services.
A world of national secrets and counter-espionage creates a dark and foreboding atmosphere. Sweden’s neutrality in the war and the legacy of that have far reaching consequences.
The murder opens the novel and suddenly a beautiful park takes on a sense of dark foreboding –
The murder of the jogger in Malmo’s central park also turns out to have far reaching links. The Swiss victim takes the investigation to Geneva and to the highest levels of politics in Sweden
Multiple time frames, several locations and two strands which weave into one final complex design. As well as Sweden there’s mention of Berlin, Geneva and back again. Nothing is as easy as it seems.
