What you need to know before your trail

Malin Fors is well aware of her own problems with addiction. So this case is worrying as its going to take her to a whole new level of obsession. When a married couple is found dead in their jacuzzi, the scene is already one of intrigue and shock, but then the realisation that the couple’s adopted five year old daughter is now missing is a further and haunting concern.

The investigation takes a darker turn and Malin, in charge of the case, has to face some demons both of her own and those she never knew existed.
And within their claws, a very missing, little girl whom Malin has to find before it’s too late.

Travel Guide

“The sound of the muffled shots can’t be heard out on Stentorpsvägen”

This is how we arrive at the crime scene at a house on Stentorpsvägen, close to the river Stångå. The same river which floats away from the bullet riddled bodies. A girl crying in confusion, wanting her mummy and daddy to stop lying there and get up to comfort here.

A heartbreaking start to a case which then descends into some very dark places indeed. This is the first in a  new series by the Swedish writer who is going to look at each one of the elements in turn. Water Angels takes place in water and near water and involves a vulnerable child spirited away like a water pixie.

The value of children and the torment of not having them is the rough terrain of this book. Malin and her partner discuss not having them. The dead couple Cecilia and Patrick, brought a Vietnamese orphan into their home to love and give a better life to.Now poor Ella Andergren is missing. Karin, the forensics expert has also adopted from Vietnam. Suddenly things seem lot closer to home. Whilst demons haunt Malin and others, some of them seem to speak from the other side…

This is a landscape scarred by ugliness and children who are the victims here. This is a Sweden, a  Linköping which is cold and brutal. This Sweden is one riddle with inequality and the links with Vietnam, the chance that suspect adoption agencies are at the forefront of something sinister is a chilling thought..

And at the centre, vulnerable, little children….
