Would you respond to an advert in a newspaper where a man is asking for a wife to spend a year on a desert island with him.
Sounds too good to be true or a trap with a strange man in the middle of nowhere? Most of us would probably have thought how wonderful it would be to get away for a year, to have some peace and quiet away from the hassles of everyday life.The opportunity to escape from it all must have been irresistible and Lucy Irvine decided to go for it.
What happens next? An adventure in every sense of the word!
Tuin Island is a mile long uninhabited strip of sand and palms in the Torres strait, 70 miles from Papua New Guinea. This was the home for one year of Lucy Irvine the author and Gerald Kingsland, her husband who was portrayed by Oliver Reed in the film of the book. Rumachroy is called Inchreoch in the book.
Tuin is a combination os tropical hell and heaven in the Torres Straits. How about washing your face in the sun over Mango Hill? Do you know the difference between a blue spotted coral trout and a parrot fish?
