2000s: Just what goes on inside a coma patients head?
Amber Reynolds lies in hospital. There are three things she tells us about herself:
1. I’m in a coma
2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore
3. Sometimes I lie
The state of a coma patient is something which fascinates many people including those in the medical profession. It’s a claustrophobic prison and one where you can’t move or talk. But you can sometimes here and think if this novel is anything to go by. The “sterilised stench” of the room, the bleeps of the machines will keep you awake long after the novel!
It’s set in London but the hospital bed is the real setting and it’s this clinical creepy landscape which stays with you.. Might be best not to read in a hospital setting.
