Once upon a time there was a cat who belonged to a widowed rabbi and his beautiful daughter, Zlabya. One day he eats the family parrot and gains the ability to speak as a result.
However the rabbi overcomes his shock to find, to his horror that the cat now tells a lot of lies and even claims to have not eaten the parrot! The rabbis takes it upon himself to educate the parrot in the ways of the Torah, while the cat insists on studying the kabbalah and having a Bar Mitzvah. They consult the rabbi’s rabbi, who maintains that a cat can’t be Jewish-but the cat, as always, knows better.
Zlabya falls in love with a rabbi from Paris, so the rabbi and the cat, now friends go with the newlyweds to France to meet Zlabya’s in-laws. What is the parrot going to say to that!?
