What you need to know before your trail

Bones are found in an underground tunnel under Guildhall, the very spot, architect Quentin Swain is hoping to build a swanky new restaurant.

There’s something very unusual about these bones – they’ve been boiled. When Dr Ruth Galloway discovers they were recently buried, they have a murder enquiry on their hands . She overcomes her fear of small spaces to go underground –  below the city to take a look.

Meanwhile the police are investigating the disappearance of a homeless woman, Babs in Norwich who has disappeared without trace. Has this woman ‘ gone underground’ so to speak and if so, what is the outcome of this very unusual and timely discovery?

The Guildhall

“Ruth is currently delving deep not into her own life but into the ground below Norwich, She is in a cellar below the Guildhall, a square, crenellated building that stands like a little castle in the heart of the city. The Guild hall is now council offices but it has, in its past, been a toll hose, a court and a prison. The most dangerous prisoners were kept here, in underground cells. the undercroft, this lower region is called, and plans are afoot to develop is as an exhibitions space and even a restaurant. This part is quite pleasant, the walls are stone and there are some rather attractive vaulted pillars, but Ruth know that things are about to get worse. She is going to have to go lover still, into a tunnel that had previously been closed off…”
