Heading north, the road from Reykjavik is like driving through a moon-like landscape. Head about 45 mins north for the best views
The Westfjords, is a good place to look for the Northern lights. The harbour at Borgarnes is a popular spot as it’s sheltered and so not as cold as being in the middle of nowhere

And the most popular it seems is Northern lights is at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, in southeast Iceland.
