Malaga and Almeria are two towns in Andalucia rich with history and culture. Many of their buildings have survived wars or have been rebuilt since to retain their character.
It has two massive hilltop citadels, the Alcazaba and ruined Gibralfaro, remnants of Moorish rule. The Renaissance cathedral is nicknamed La Manquita (“one-armed lady”) because one of its towers was curiously left unbuilt.
Almería is the capital of the province of the same name. Abd-ar-Rahman III founded the Alcazaba, which gave this city its name: Al-Mari’yah
