2008 onwards: Life in Spain is sunny and a home from home right?
Anna’s friends and family think she is living the dream in her beautiful finca under the Spanish sun. But the reality is far from perfect.
She came here with the man whom she believed she was building a future with but that has come crashing down. She decides to move away to the town of Marea and buys a bar where she observes the comings and goings of the expats – anything to take her mind of her situation.
Then a local businessman offers to rent the finca but is he what he seems? And just what does the want with the house and who is going to be living there?
There is a very black cloud hanging over that finca and suddenly life under the sun seems very dark and cold indeed.
Marea is fictional but is thought to be somewhere along the Costa del Sol. It’s a dusty, arid place with the air sucked out of the atmosphere and where a cloud of suspicion and doubt hang over a pretty finca.
This is a town where the Spanish seem to have forgotten and where the expats now rule. It’s sad, forgotten and brings people together from all walks of life and those trying to create a new life, having escaped from poverty and heartache abroad.
When the body washes up on the beach, the issue of immigration and refugees comes to the fore. Those who leave their homes and try to assimilate elsewhere and those who act as if they’ve never left.
