The BookTrail visits the British Library

The British Library BookTrail style

The British Library is such a place of wonder for me. This place is amazing! So many books and thousands more hidden underground. Lifts that bring them to the reading rooms for use and then magically carry them away again. It’s very Harry Potter with all the magic that it involves and it all goes on without you seeing it.

What greets you on arrival:

This illustration below captures some of that magic of the underground book haven. Very Cemetery of Forgotten Books but these are far from forgotten! Just look at the system of lifts and quite frankly, sorcery, that gets the books flying from one place to another:

Basked in the sunlight, this is a bookhaven for many reasons! Not to mention the British Library shop where there was a three for two deal on. Just look at the views from the first floor:

It feels very magical here – the stairs, the corridors, the hidden corners and the maze of rooms. It’s all very exciting just to wander and see the book tower in the centre, visit the cafe and shop and see people milling around. The book tower is very big – too big for a photo but this one for scale. How these people were working and not staring at the book tower is beyond me. 😉

I wandered and soaked up the atmosphere. You can get a free reading pass to wander more if you fancy and you only need proof of name and address. But there’s tons to see without it.

And on the way out…. the cafe with the perfect name!

Go here if you can. I can’t get the scale of this and the wonder of this across in one post. It is to be seen to be believed! And always imagine what is below your feet as you wander around…
