Women in Translation – Icelandic Sólveig Pálsdóttir

This Icelandic author is one who needs to go on your radar. You need to add her books to your TBR as she deserves to be on so many more TBR piles.

Why? She’s written two cracking novels that have been translated into English by the quite frankly, marvellous Corylus Books.

Solveig lives in Seltjarnarnes in Iceland. She studied acting at the Icelandic Drama School and was an actress for many years. Alongside acting she worked on programming at the TV network RUV.

She has a BA degree in general literature from the University of Iceland in 1996.

The Fox

A woman moves from Sri Lanka to Iceland for a job that doesn’t exist…then she disappears.

The trail of the missing woman takes him back to Reykjavík, and then to a remote farmhouse beneath dark mountains where an elderly woman and her son live with their sinister past.

Silenced

As a police team is called in to investigate a woman’s suicide at the Hólmsheiði prison outside Reykjavík, to detective Guðgeir Fransson it looks like a tragic but straightforward case.

It’s only afterwards that the pieces begin to fall into place and he takes a deeper interest in Kristín Kjarr’s troubled background, and why she had found herself in prison.

Keep an eye out for the three novels preceeding these. The Actor (2012), The Righteous Ones (2013) and Pure (2015) and aren’t yet in English.

Be sure to check out what both Solveig and Corylus Books get up to next!
