2000s:Oh on the lonely isle of Eileencraig……..Hamish is on holiday
Believing that someone is trying to murder her, gorgeous Jane Wetherby asks Hamish Macbeth to spend Christmas with her and an exclusive group of friends at her Scottish island health farm. He thinks the lady is a bit daft, but, arriving on the lonely isle of Eileencraig, he feels a prickle of foreboding. The locals are openly threatening; the other guests, especially a terrible snob named Heather Todd, are barely civil.
So when Heather meets an untimely end, Hamish knows he doesn’t have far to look for the culprit. The only snag in his investigation is that all the guests were in the house when Heather vanished. Now, as mysterious events abound on Eileencraig, Hamish has a lot of smoke and shadows to get through.
Hamish Macbeth country
Constable Hamish Macbeth lives in the fictitious town of Lochdubh in Sutherland, Scotland
Eileencraig is a lovely little island (We imagine it to look a bit like Eilean Donan Castle)
(Hamish) was to find out that a large part of theh center of the very flat island was below sea-level. The sea was calming. somewhere far overhead, the wind was tearing and shrieking, but down below, all was suddently still, an eerie effect, as if Eileencraig, like a sort of aquatic Brigadoon, had risen from the sea”
The perfect place for a holiday away for wee Hamish. He’s had a bit of bother lately and is a bit under the weather so a Scottish island getaway is perfect. A health farm no less – and a house full of rich and posh guests. Oh and of course a murderer. Time for a locked room mystery.
