2016: A short story based on the true events of one of Migrant boats which capsized this summer
A fictional but still equally harrowing account of just one day, one journey in the escalating migrant crisis. We’ve all heard the stories in the news, seen the pictures in the paper but what must it be like to have experienced such horrors? That’s for those who manage to survive.
An optician out fishing one day hears a funny noise and goes to explore, only to find more horror than he ever could have imagined.
A travel guide is not a title that goes well with this book for this is a story, based on true facts of the everyday reality for many migrants making the journey from despair to hope. This is just one story, one man’s story in the entire plethora of news bulletins we hear each and every day.
This is a dark and harrowing read – desperate people going to desperate measures to flee from their homeland. Over full boats, often not even boats but some kind of floating device or wooden pallets they hope will get them to their new life.
How can you examine the fear between life and death? This story comes very close. Mass migration is revealed in every way from the effects on those making the journey and the people, the governments in the countries they arrive in as everyone struggles to cope with the sheer number of people.
