What you need to know before your trail

Based on a true story, this is the tale of two eleven-year-olds in Sudan.

Nya, a girl tells her story in 2008. She has to walk some two hours from her home in order to fetch water and has to do the journey twice a day in order to look after her family.

Salva on the other hand, tells his story in 1985. He is one of the “lost boys” of Sudan, refugees who roam the African continent in their search for their families and for somewhere they can call home.

They are  both survivors in their own way. And then their stories intersect..

The two sides to Sudan

The country is at war and school lesson, life itself is constantly interrupted by gunfire. Rebels from the south of the country are fighting against the government. Those in the north are mainly muslim and the government wants Sudan to be muslim and for everyone to follow the Islam faith. The South is fighting for independence

The author was inspired by the time spent as a young girl in Loun Arik in Tonj country Southern Sudan. She herself stayed in refugee camps until she was able to leave for America.
