What you need to know before your trail

Newly married Nicole Somerset can’t wait to spend her first festive season on Nantucket with her husband, handsome former attorney Sebastian.

The island is magical at the best of times but at Christmas the place is quite something else – from the decorations on Brant Point lighthouse to the yearly Christmas Stroll, the winter months bring with them a seasonal magic.

However when Sebastian’s daughter, Kennedy, returns for the holidays the Christmas spirit is sorely lacking. Bah humbug would be a better description as she seems intent on sabotaging her father’s relationship with Nicole.

Nicole is not going to sit back and take it though. Oh no.

Travel Guide

There should be warnings on certain books that you need to have eaten before reading. Of course no grisly reason here, just that the food on Nantucket Island is so yummy and gorgeous that you will drool on the pages if you’re not careful.

Then Nantucket comes truly alive. Islanders have the leisure to savor the Charles Dickens charm gleaming from the glistening cobblestones streets and historic brick buildings.

With Christmas around the corner, the tables are laden with goodies. And the sky is laden with tension as Kennedy returns home to spoil things. A battle of wills ensues.

Both inside and inside the house, the Christmas season on Nantucket is  very different to that of other Nantucket books. the beaches are deserted, the sun is off on holiday and the darkness seems to envelope the island apart from the twinkling decorations with the Brandt Lighthouse acting as the ultimate twinkling star on the tree.

Nicole has a more difficult time than most with this being her first Christmas on the island. wanting everything to go well, she is shocked at the blustery Kennedy whirl wind that ends up trying to destroy and wreak havoc on the island. This is the island of peace and tranquility, rich summer houses, a playground for those well enough to enjoy it. They may need to batten down the hatches in more ways than one. Just be sure to leave access from the port for Santa to arrive from the mainland with his presents!

This is a view of Nantucket which is different to other visits – winter, christmas and the Kennedy storm are coming. But the spirit of Christmas is all around and the storm that Nicole cooks up for everyone will hopefully be the stronger of the two.
