This was a really emotional read on so many levels. The subject matter of domestic abuse is never easy to read about but this was particularly uncomfortable for me on many levels. There are scenes of violence as you might expect but not in the way you think and certainly they’re not used for gratuitous reasons which is what makes them even more disturbing.
This is a detailed slide into a domestic abuse and a bullying relationship where slowly but surely things escalate and get so much worse than you can ever imagine. I think it was an admirable book to write as you don’t read about this turn of events – woman against man – too often and it’s a very real and serious situation that is even often ridiculed in the media. Men should be men etc. Well, women should be women and everybody should just be a little bit more respectful to each other, Hitting someone else, controlling them, abusing them is not acceptable ever. Don’t care who or what you are. People think it’s often weak people affected or those who won’t fight back. They forget the mental abuse and the gradual wearing down that takes place. This novel is an insight into a horrific but often taboo situation that needs to be read by many.
