Agatha Christie’s very own mystery of her disappearance…
Agatha Christie’s very own mystery of her disappearance…
Agatha Christie famously played a role in her very own mystery -her very own disappearance when she just vanished from her own life….
It had a lot to do with her errant husband – the fact that he, Archie Christie, had chosen to spend the weekend at his friend’s house in Godalming in Surrey, at a party (where his mistress Nancy Neele would also be present)
However, this was to be the biggest and most intriguing mystery that Agatha Christie had ever plotted – even more so that the ones in her books – despite a massive man-hunt, there seemed to be no trace of her – had she vanished off the face of the earth?
They do say truth is stranger than fiction….
On the Trail of Agatha Christie
Her car was found with a suitcase of clothes and her driver’s licence at Newlands Corner near Guildford in Surrey. She’d left her house, Styles in Berkshire with a note to her housekeeper saying that she was going to Yorkshire.
Agatha was found ten days later in a hotel in Harrogate where she’d registered as Mrs Teresa Neele from Cape Town. Ten whole days in a mystery of her very own making – with her as the centre of the story. Every year now in July, the Harrogate Crime Fiction Festival is held here over three days – crime writers from all over the world gather to showcase their books and meet their readers. There are awards ceremonies and crime busting panels. Agatha would have been very proud hopefully known that this hotel would continue to haveeven more strong crime fiction links for all time
