2000s: It’s Montalbano’s birthday and he’s feeling his age..
It’s Inspector Montalbano’s birthday but this time he’s feeling his age so decides to cheer himself up by dealing with a young driver’s road rage in his own unique way.
But then he gets an angry phone call from a supermarket boss; there’s been a robbery at his store and Montalbano’s colleague is treating him as a suspect. Montalbano heads over to the scene but it soon becomes apparent that this is no ordinary break in. The supermarket is known for having links to the Mafia so any investigation is not going to be easy
Oh and if that weren’t enough – the young driver he came across earlier in the week has now come back to report a shocking crime
Vigata may be fictional but it is said to be inspired by Porto Empedocle where the author’s childhood home was. Inspector Montalbano
Oh the humour between Montalbano and Catarella is funny and unique to these novels. What is an “impy tree” for example? Oh he means an MP3. And what about a breathifier? Words gets mangled as much as the mafia connections to the crime
As with the other Montalbano novels, the author states – ‘As is obvious, the names of …. streets, hotels etc are entirely fictitious and make no reference to reality’. What a shame.
