2000s: Watch out for that nanny!
2000s: Watch out for that nanny!
What image comes into your mind when you think of an english nanny in the New York’s posh upper East Side? Certainly not Rosie Kittow , a thirty eight year odl primary school teacher. She bounces and springs her way into the lives of one very unsuspecting family there. A wealthy family who live in the special East Side which is also known for its wealth and status. The Wilder-Bingham Kingdom of restraint. Well that’s before Rosie stops by and starts to enjoy restraints of a whole other kind!
New York’s Upper East Side
This story certainly puts this area in a new light and changes the meaning of ‘Taking Manhattan’ completely!
If you live in this area or move here, never get a nanny. Certainly one from England if this book is to be believed. But then that’s the fun factor – this nanny is no Mary Poppins – her eyes would quite literally pop out at the antics that go on here!
This is the Upper East Side we are told where people care about personal presentation and that you’ve brushed your hair. But when the New York weather is changeable in February – from sunny and snappy to the heavens having opened, Upper East Side chic gets hard to maintain.
The Wilder Binghams don’t just live on the twelfth floor. They are the twelfth floor”
The house is full of pannelled walls, “flowery curtainage”, a, large windows but and a strange quietness which seems to suggest the apartment is even hermetically sealed.
What goes on behind these wood panelled walls however….the neighbours would be very shocked indeed.
This is a posh upperclass area with parks and gardens and the lovely Guggenheim museum to visit, a few steps from the Central Park and the iconic home where John Lennon lived. Culturally fascinating.
