The suffragette movement
The book features the Salvage Movement which Sam works for and which was ‘A unit of skilled tradesmen originally set up by the city’s insurance companies . It specialised in recovering goods from and minimising the losses at commercial premises damaged by fire and ‘other perils’
The heritage centre is at Bridle Road Liverpool – Merseyside Fire and Rescue holds the largest archive of any Fire and Rescue Service in the UK with over 80,000 photographs and records digitized. Quite a sight and a very interesting insight into the city’s history as portrayed in the book.
