Hope you are hiding behind your sofa when you read this one as this is French Noir with a gritty bloody twist!
Alex Prévost has been kidnapped, beaten, and is now suspended from the ceiling of an abandoned warehouse in a wooden cage. She’s at the mercy of the man who put her there. And the only thing he wants is to see her die.
Commandant Camille Verhoven has nothing to go on: no suspect, no leads. If he is to find Alex, he will have to get inside her head.
But once he gets inside her head, he may wish that he could get out. Before long, saving her life will be the least of his worries.
This is not a trip to Paris for the fainthearted. There are some places after reading this book that you may well associated with blood and gore. But this is an interesting tour of Paris via its ring road and the major points on it. The “Portes ” are links which make up the old city walls and these gates are the entrances and exits to the city of Paris. It gives Paris in this novel a sense of claustrophobia and entrapment which is very apt given the circumstances of the plot.
These can sometimes be the more salubrious sides to the city and are far away from the more obvious and tourist spots so travel around Paris carefully with Alex. This is a side to Paris that won’t be on any tourist map anytime soon.
