Timeless: A charming story about a young boy who inherits a castle!
Alfie Bloom. An ordinary kid with an ordinary name. But one day he receives a very interesting piece of news indeed. A letter summons him to see a man named Caspian Bone, a solicitor who tells him he is now the proud owner of a castle.
And that’s not all. Turns out there are some mysterious circumstances surrounding his birth too which makes him the caretaker of a centuries-old magic.
Tough job for a young boy, and a dangerous one too…
Now where in this magical world would you find Hexbridge and Hexbridge Castle? The author herself lives in Teeside and there are obvious Northern links to the castle name – Hexham and Corbridge mashup of sorts? Now that would be a magical place..
The world here is one of magic, castles and a little boy who finds that he has access to a very magical world indeed.
He is bullied and unhappy thinking that there is nothing special about him when really he is capable of slipping back in time thanks to a potent kind of magic he has access to.
He gets to live in his very own castle and that’s just the start of his adventures as not everyone is happy with this new turn of events. There are dangerous forces roaming the landscape and if he’s to save his magic and protect the villagers nearby, he’s got quite the fight on his hands!
The old crumbling castle is a place of dark hidden corridors, concealed chambers and a personality all of its own. Turn on the light switch – a seemingly modern feature – only for it to turn on all the candles in the room!
This is also a world of childhood – tree houses, the flying bearskin rug, the candles, the timeslip adventures. It’s an Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Harry Potter kind of world and it’s magical!
The booktrail below is inspired by Northern castles very near to Hexbridge!
Susan:
Whether you are a child or an adult with a child’s mind, this book appeals on so many levels. If you’ve even spent your time in a world of Harry Potter, Enid Blyton and Road Dahl then this will take you back. I really enjoyed this as it was a lot of fun, and that Nora Emmett who mistrusts everything – what a hoot she was!
In fact I’ve never met such a bunch of characters I enjoyed spending so much time with. Makes me want to be a child again and climb up inside a tree house. With this book in my hand. Now that really would be magical.
I love the fact that I’ve met Alfie Bloom and been to Hexbridge and I’m dying to go back. And Hexbridge is going firmly on the Booktrail literary map!
