What you need to know before your trail

The mines have been abandoned for decades, but when the night is still and calm in the Montes de Hierro, the  echo of the desperate cries from those souls entombed in the ground  can be heard.  Teresa Echegaray is a powerful local figure leading a campaign to reopen the mines. So, when she is found dead, old legends and resentments are reawakened in the local community.

Julia is one of the detectives  put onto the case. The investigation into Teresa’s death is soon complicated by an event that shakes the foundations of Julia’s life. The more she becomes embroiled in the investigation, the more questions she finds rather than answers. Enter Ane Cestero, who although has been stripped of her uniform and badge, wants to use her instincts to help Julia on the case.

It is going to be a lot more challenging that they ever could have realised.

Travel Guide

The mining industry of Biscay/Vizcaya

The steel and iron industry in Vizcaya/Biscay was the industry of choice given the richness of the raw materials in the area.  The Triano Mountains, a range cutting across the villages of Abanto-Zierbena, Muskiz, Galdames, Trápaga and Ortuella, were key to its development, offering large amounts of quality iron.

Not surprisingly, there is a museum dedicated to the history and heritage of the region. The Bizkaia Bridge, or Puente Colgante, was built in 1893 to connect the working-class neighbourhoods on the left bank to the bourgeois districts on the right. It is a monument to its past and an arch of honour for many.
