We can’t choose the strangers we meet.
As the guests arrive at beautiful, remote Mitchell’s Inn, they’re all looking forward to a relaxing weekend deep in the forest, miles from anywhere. They watch their fellow guests with interest, from a polite distance.
Usually we can avoid the people who make us nervous, make us afraid.
With a violent storm raging, the group finds itself completely cut off from the outside world. Nobody can get in – or out. And then the first body is found . . . and the horrifying truth comes to light. There’s a killer among them – and nowhere to run.
Until we find ourselves in a situation we can’t escape. Trapped.
This is in reality a lovely landscape and place to visit. The never ending mountains, valleys, green spaces, nature parks, woods and lakes. The Birthplace of American fly fishing apparently and a bolt hole to nature for New Yorkers and others.
You won’t want to stay in the hotel in the book but luckily that’s fictional. Try another one for a more relaxing time!

I’m not sure I’m going to head out to the Catskills after reading this! Blimey, that remote inn is a brilliant setting! It’s winter, people are trapped but it’s not the storm outside they need to be worried about..
The set up is brilliant – few guests, even fewer staff, no wi-fi, no chance of driving anywhere soon….. and the guests seem nice don’t they?
For a book that is set in a very confined location, there’s an awful lot going on! All the horror ingredients are there, but this is no paint by numbers read. There’s twists, turns, blackouts and unexpected guests… I just hope I don’t ever stay in a hotel with any of them myself!
Some of the story takes place in the characters’ heads and that’s when things get interesting. They worry about what you, the reader, are worrying about. It’s all very exciting and tense.
The police don’t arrive until late on in the novel so there’s a LOT to worry about until then. Ending was a bit quicker than I would have liked but then again the pen writing it must have been afraid enough to get out of the hotel itself!
