A gut- wrenching tale of how sometimes life can unravel
A lot of people think nothing of having a relaxing drink at the end of the day. It helps you to sit and enjoy life for a moment, relieve the stresses of your day and help you unwind. Romily needs this more than anyone as she’s worked hard for her nice life, nice house and even nicer family. But one glass soon becomes two, then three, then where does it end?
When drink replaces and becomes more important than even the people who you love, it’s another love that could destroy everything.
Perhaps the saddest setting you will ever read on the booktrail. This is one woman’s descent into alcoholism so it’s not a place you’ll want to go for yourself but instead is a real poignant read about just what the realities of such a spiral into the abyss is really like on a day to day basis.
David and Celeste know and love Romilly but there’s a fourth and very invited guest in the house – one who hides and is sneeky and lies constantly – and it won’t budge, no matter how much they plead. The unwelcome guest is alcohol and anyone who’s ever suffered this in their family will feel the pain and shed bucketloads of tears.
Clare @thebooktrailer
I am so heartbroken and emotional after reading this novel. I sadly have a loved one that has ‘another love’ and for whom this other love takes over everything and everyone in its path. I’ve never read such a heartbreaking novel that totally gets what it’s like to live through this raw and brutal world and I can only thank Amanda for being so brave to expose and explore it. It’s a world I knew nothing about but which family members and loved ones are forced into and I felt their pain as acutely as my own. This hit every single nerve in my body but I now feel some comfort and relief that I’ve read this, a kind of therapy if you like. I’m not alone and this happens and I cringe when people laugh at binge drinking as if only they knew. I envy their free spirit and ignorance and I wish everyone would read this book, and then decide if it’s still worth it.
