Why a Booktrail?

2000s: A lone woman walking home, deserted streets…well not quite

  • ISBN: 978-0099465751
  • Genre: Crime

What you need to know before your trail

The clock clack of her high heels is the only sound that accompanies her  at two o’clock in the morning. It’s col and the streets are deserted and she just wants to get home to her baby son.

The baby wakes the next morning but his mother is not there. His mother won’t be there later either and she’s never coming back.

In Houghton le Spring, this should be a week of celebration rather than murder. It’s feast wee and the fair is in town. An opportunity for the Seahill residents to take time out of their dismal day.

But the police are searching for a stranger…

Travel Guide

The unique setting of this novel is houghtonfeast.co.uk which is an ancient festival which takes place in Houghton le Spring every October.

“As  nan tells her every year, it’s been celebrated in Houghton since the middle ages, and was established as a feast of Dedicating to the church. Bu custom it takes place on the nearest Friday to October tenth where the lights are switched on by the Mayor of Sunderland and the locals are treated to a tattoo, complete with bagpipes, after which the fairground opens”

There is also a huge roast ox to enjoy in the rectory field beside the police station and it brings the whole community together, allowing the locals to let off steam and go wild. Described as a get out of jail card, that also is described in a very unique way which foreshadows the way the setting more than creates a unique atmosphere for the crimes which follow:

“Letting you off the hook for things you’ve wanted to do but not dared all year round.”

The Seahills estate as you might imagine is fictional.
