What you need to know before your trail

A lot can happen when you set out to ‘find yourself’ in Bali.

Many people go travelling to find themselves but the reality is far from easy. Imagine finding that six months was not going to be all that you’d imagined.

Some aspects of Bali culture turned out to be rather too close to home as instead of the retreats and peaceful locations, their teenagers are just as moody if not more so, the magic is less David Copperfield and more of the black variety and forget your TOWIE vajazzle, here it’s all about the steaming….

For others like Becky who arrive not knowing who they are, chances are they’ll be even more confused when leaving. But they’ll have had some cracking experiences to take with them.

Travel Guide

Destination board: Bali, Indonesia, Ubud – Kuta, Legian, Ahmed, Lovina and Padang Bai, Sengiggi and the Gili Islands.

Wicks is not your average travel guide that’s for sure. She takes you on a personal and very funny story around the island of Bali and the activities she does along the way will be of the kind you may never contemplate yourself (even if you’d heard of them) but will find them and Becky’s experience of them a whole lot of fun.

Still, there are many helpful tips for the single female traveller such as where to spot the best looking divers.  Would you like to spend time in a cemetery at moonlight in search of spirits?

Would you like to get your nether regions steamed? What about spotting the wildlife so eagerly written of in other books such as Eat Pray Love?

“In the movie Eat, Pray, Love, Julia Roberts is shown cycling through a leafy jungle, smiling as the furry little monkeys sit quietly on the sidelines, looking cute. […] I hate to be the one to break the news but now that I’ve done it, I know for sure that Hollywood has lied to us.”

As well as the fun and wacky side, there is also a serious side and guide to the country and its people. Tourist spots versus the real Bali, Western values and South Asian traditions… there is a lot of research here and Becky knows her stuff.

Mix in a little Becky magic and you’ve got one gem of a travel guide!
