2000s: Just what kind of people do you meet in Bangkok?
2000s: Just what kind of people do you meet in Bangkok?
Wander around any city and who do you pass? The magician standing in a hotel, the boxer on his way to the gym, the local MP, the man getting on a train… How have they all ended up here and why? What is THEIR story? Well this was a question which James Eckhardt asked himself as the stories people tell, also tell the stories of the people, and the city at large..
The author says “The only thing I like better than telling stories is listening to them. There are eight million stories in this naked city of Bangkok, Or Nine, Or seven. No one knows for sure. Over the lat even years, I’ve been lucky enough to listen to thousands of Bangkok people, distilling their stories…”
The magician in the first story becomes the resident magician here. Whilst there may not be any magicians if you stay here, it looks that nice, your visit is bound to be magical in other ways!
The MP of the second story is canvassing here. It’s a very popular and exciting place to go as even just the restaurants are worth a visit. There is such an array of shops and cafes here that it’s a landmark in itself and a very popular and busy area in the city
The MP and a friend meet here to start canvassing. It’s a very popular market in the area but not as big and busy as it used to be so a market such as Patpong Night Market might be your better bet
