2000s: Art theft and sex in Barcelona and Chicago….
A novel with its heart in Barcelona but which whisks the reader to Chicago and back again with little breaks in London and even Paris. For this world you are bout to enter is a vibrant and artistic one. This is the dark world of art trafficking and the lengths people will go to in order to get their hands on the most costly pieces of art.
Elso Bari runs a restaurant in Chicago but he’s also got a sideline as a detective who searches for those who don’t want to be found. His latest case will take him to Barcelona in a case where sex rules everything and before he knows it, he has no idea what he has let himself in for. Least of all if he can ever get out.
This really is the city of food and art and much of the food is infact art in itself. The most artistic places are…well everywhere since this is the city Gaudi built. Apart from his buildings, you should visit the neighbourhoods in the book which take you further afield. Don’t forget the essentials however such as the Gaudi Museum or the Erotic Museum which is very apt for this novel!
the city where the story starts in the restaurant is a good place to seek out the unusual and the very best Chicago cuisines. Many restaurants are where Elso has his and that area is also awash with art museums galleries and more. Try to go between January 27-February 9, as this is Chicago Restaurant Week when over 300 restaurants feature special good value menus. You can literarily taste the world in Chicago and then go to visit a gallery totally experiencing this novel in its entirety!
