2000s: Eat your way around the Basque country!
In Basque, José Pizarro will take readers on a journey around this magical place, taking inspiration from traditional dishes and local ingredients, and adding his own unique twist. From the delicious bite-sized morsels known as pintxos Basque-style tapas to more hearty main meals and sumptuous desserts, José will show you how easy it is to prepare Spanish food at home. The cuisine of this region is wonderful to share with family and friends but it’s also about informality and not being a slave to your stove.
José Pizarro, the Godfather of Spanish cooking in the UK, has been living in London for over 16 years. He recently opened his third restaurant in London’s redeveloped Broadgate Circle, to add to his clutch of critically acclaimed restaurants on Bermondsey Street. José is a regular on BBC 1’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, amongst others.
A good cookbook should not only teach you about the food the chef preparing it, but take you to the country or region the food is from
This book does both – the author has infact lived in London for some 16 years but loves the Basque country. He himself is from Extremadura but his love of the Basque country made him want to take people there via the amazing food. There are plenty photos of the landscape dotted throughout the book.
He travels to San Sebastian and wanders around the old town to visit the ‘pintxos’ bars -( bit like tapas)
If you really want to go that bit further and go on the foodie trail – the author provides a list of restaurants at the back of the book. In the UK Pizarro’s in London is his place to eat
