2024: Some people seem to get away with everything. Well, not always….
When Victoria escapes her broken home for university in London, she is determined to reinvent herself and make a fresh start. She falls in love with Nick, who welcomes her into his privileged circle of friends, opening her eyes to a world she only ever dreamt of.
Then life takes a darker turn.
Twenty-five years later, the circle is reunited alongside a host of glittering guests to celebrate the wedding of Hollywood darling Ingrid Olsson to ruthlessly well-connected Julian Draper. Victoria has spent years trying to forget Nick and put the horror of what happened behind her. Now she has to face the past she tried so hard to bury.
As the champagne flows and painful memories resurface, Victoria can’t shake the feeling that some people seem to get away with everything.
But maybe not this time.
Maybe this time, someone will pay the ultimate price.
An author mini guide to Beautiful People
Paris – The Louvre. This is where Delacroix’ Liberty Leading the People hangs. This is the painting that Nick tells Victoria about and she becomes obsessed with it and emulating the spirit of Liberty to try and impress him. When things go wrong for Victoria, it’s Paris heads for hoping to find some of the magic and beauty that Nick talked about.
Marseille – Twenty-five years later, we find Victoria living in a small apartment in Marseille. She is working as an artist, supplementing her income with a few shifts in a cafe owned by the gruff but caring Fabian. Her friend Anne-Marie owns the gallery which exhibits Victoria’s work.
Falmouth- Ingrid and Julian are getting married in a glamorous hotel on the Cornish coast now far from Falmouth. This is where Victoria stays the night before the wedding. Coco, a young waitress at the wedding, is from the town.
Bedford Square – The Queen’s School of Architecture, where Victoria meets Nick, Cami, Julian and Fraser and the rest of the glittering group of friends, is on Bedford Square. Though Bedford Square is a real place, QSA is entirely fictionalised.
Knutsford – Victoria cannot wait to escape Knutsford and leave the shame of her disgraced father behind her. She moves to university in London, determined to reinvent herself.
