2000s: Peace of mind is all Greg Cole has wanted since the murder of his twin sister, Scarlett…
Greg Cole has looked far and wild even the smallest piece of peace of mind. But he’s always just one step behind it would seem as well, you never get over the murder of your sister, and there’s a special bond between twin siblings.
Greg is now living the supposed good life in Florida, but when Scarlett’s killer is released early from prison with a cast-iron alibi, Greg realizes that his past is about to explode into his present, with terrifying consequences.
Greg knows about what can linger and poison the mind – he’s a talk therapist and so is ued to dealing with problems. But those closer to home are not really what you expect are they?
A childhood friendship comes to the fore and the police turn their spotlight on him, the thought of analyzing his own psyche is a disturbing prospect. How far can he trust his own memories?
What a visit to the sunshine state -although this time the golden shin hides a darker underbelly and a dark shadow lingers over Greg who has never gotten over the death of his twin sister. And to start with a riproading ride over a bridge which seems to float over the sea – you can’t see the edge of the bridge from either side of the car – but when you have a hostage in the back, scenery is not really your main concern…
“Then we’re charging across the long bridge spanning Tampa Bay greenery succumbing to blue. It’s a fantastic view. No land in sight. Just an endless tract of wave-whipped water and the sun-bleached pavement stretches out on stilts , disappearing over the horizon like the road goes on forever”
“…the humpbacked bridge rearing up in the distance like a monstrous creature rising rising from the depths”
That monster lurks for the rest of the novel. You know it’s there but aren’t sure when you will see things rise from the bleakness this novel submerges you into..
A maze of rivers, streams and lakes which can hide a multitude of things….the author is from here as well so you can booktrail and visit his stomping ground at the same time!
