Meanwhile in Edinburgh Rebus has been sidelined and shoved onto a case of murder involving an off duty oilman. The investigations take him to Aberdeen where the threads of murder and gangsters come very tightly bound.

The Case of the unsolved Bible John murders really did take place in Glasgow in the 1960s. Bible John is the nickname of a serial killer who is believed to have murdered three young women after meeting them at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow during the 1960s. With a copy cat presuming to wander the streets of the modern day city, REbus comes face to face with history and reality.
