When seventeen-year-old Nickie Montrose brings home a boy for the first time, this careful balance is thrown into disarray. For the other women have been keeping the curse from Nickie, and revealing it means that they must reckon with their own choices and mistakes.

New Orleans
The city of black magic and vampires if the stories and movies are anything to go by. It it also well known as being the city of voodoo and the dark arts.
New Orleans is famous for its Creole cuisine, unique dialects, and its annual Mardi Gras. The historic heart of the city is the French Quarter, which is the setting of the novel. Bourbon Street in paticular is colourful and eventful. The red light district is also here, side by side the voodoo shops.
