The “black diamond” truffle is a treasured asset, in the St Denis and Dordogne region but there are worrying rumours that the delicacy is being adulterated for profit. There seems to be cheaper ones coming in from China and flooding the market.
When an Asian family who have had a market stall for many years
are attacked, it’s assumed that the Chinese attackers are from organised gangs and that a Vietnam – chinese war could be about to break out in the docile Dordogne.

Bruno’s best weapon is his network of friends and colleagues in town, his love and knowledge of food and the fact that he has a history as well. He is as much a part of this town as the truffle itself
“You know truffles, you know what they mean to this part of the world?”
Likewise Bruno. And he, as the only policeman in the town, has a lot to investigate. It’s one of his friends who has ended up dead and his investigations take him far and wide from the market stalls to the back rooms of cafés, to the dark and dingy underworld as his idyllic home is under threat.
