Travel Guide

Inverness

“Inverness may officially be a city these days, but it’s still a small town”

It certainly is a small town but it’s sometimes easy to hide even if everyone knows you or thinks they know you. This is a place where Parlabane’s knowledge is essential to his work. He has to know the streets, the people and the nuances of the place. This is his stomping ground  but even so there are shadows in the city even he doesn’t know of yet. This is a book for setting rather than a trail involving locations but the background is a strong one. This city is a place where certain people seem to have as much history as that of a computer – as long as you want it until it’s wiped clean.

Inverness’s black waters

Elphinstone is believed to have lost control of his car at Widow Falls (aptly enough) a notorious blackspot near Ordskirk, close to Inverness

Although the waterfall and river are fictional there are lots of waterways and rivers close to Inverness since just a little bit south of the city is the famous Loch Ness where there is no black widow but a whole other kind of monster lurking in the murky depths. This one however isn’t known for killing. It seems rather friendly and has a museum dedicated to it as people from all over the world continues to be fascinated by it.

Booktrailer Review

Susan: @thebooktrailer

Well if this is not the twistiest, darkest, cleverest of books I’ve read in a long while. Ok, so these might not be actual words but my head is still reeling from that ending that I still can’t speak properly.

Genius is my one word review. So blinking clever. Characters superb – I believe in every single one, I was led down every single dark alley, tricked into not believing what was right in front of my eyes and believing what I thought was real. I reread chapters and still didn’t spot the clues. Ha! I am going to have to cool down my mystery loving brain for a few days and read some lighter stuff – to cool off the overthinking neurons as they’re all fired up now.

Not surprised at all to see it won the Bloody Scotland award last year, It’s on the list for Harrogate this year – it would be my winner.
