Precious is now happily married – finally! – to her long term partner Mr J.L.B. Matekoni, but if she thought that life was going to grow more peaceful then she could not have been more wrong. People just keep turning up at the door of her Ladies’ Detective Agency with a string of problems.
Among the list is a case of blackmail, sinister goings on at a clinic and snake in the grass….
The frailties of human nature are all around making Precious wonder just what is important in life.
You’ll be well acquainted with Botswana by now if you have read the earlier novels but each book comes with a new view point and insight into the country and seeing through the country through Precious’ eyes is always a joy.
Imagine yourself working with these people, chatting to Mma Makutsi about the trouble she’s having with her fiancee and trying to help Precious solve her latest case. Oh and if that means sitting down by that cafe of hers or on the veranda drinking bush tea. Imagine the things you would see, hear and more importantly over here…
Botswana and the detective agency at the bottom of Kgale Hill draws you in – with its landscape, and wisdom –
“It was a familiar feeling in Botswana, this waiting for rain which often simply did not come, or came too late to save the crops.”
The beauty of the landscape shines –
“These were the colours of the wild flowers that had been lurking there, throughout the dry season, waiting for the first drops of moisture to awaken them.”
Oh and we love Mr Matekoni who has a great weakness for cake ‘He can be manipulated very easily if he has a plate of cake in his hand” . Well quite. That’s our philosophy too.
