The story of a Mexican woman escaping her past in a city that can not escape its own, is a strong and interesting story to be told.
Living alone in Berlin and with no desire to return home to her native Mexico, Tatiana craves and cultivates a sense of solitude and loneliness. She finds the ghosts of the city are her friends and feel more real and present than the human beings she comes across everyday.
One day she takes a job transcribing notes for the reclusive historian Doktor Weiss. Through him, she meets Jonas, a meteorologist who likens the changing sky to the grim reality of the changing Germany.
Now, the shape of the city’s past really starts to take shape.
Berlin
A strange and changing city, a city constantly in flux. Tatiana sees things others might not see for she is as much a stranger to the city as the city is to her. She is one single, solitary person coming to live in a huge and imposing city. Adapting to a new pace of life, a new culture and a new understanding is not an easy task. So she observes…
Working for a historian who welcomes solitude probably even more than she does, she spends her days typing out stories he narrates to her of the city in flux, a city changing and surprising in equal measure. She sees her Berlin now through his eyes.
Meeting Jonas who studies changing sky patterns for a living, she sees yet again another Berlin. This is a man who looked up when below him on the ground, the reality of the GDR was grim and brutal. The sky, the heavens opened up a new world to him and one he took comfort in.
Berlin takes on a new shape each time and Tatiana sees another form, the clouds of Berlin. Pictures appear in dreams such as when Hitler emerges from a U-Bahn station dressed as a woman.
Clouds like dreams and visions shape what we see and what we know.
